It is also believed that on the night of Mahashivratri\, Lord Shiva performed the Tandava dance. On this day\, lord Shiva saved the world from a pot of poison that emerged from the ocean during Samudra Manthan\, by drinking it. \nMAHASHIVRATRI CELEBRATIONS: \nOn this day\, devotees remember Lord Shiva\, chant prayers (“Om Namah Shivaya”)\, fast\, do Shiva yoga\, visit temples and some even keep awake all night (jaagaran). Also by chanting the Maha Mrityunjaya Mantra is considered powerful and one can seek the blessings of Lord Shiva on this day. The mantra is \nOm Tryambhakam Yajamahe Sugandhim Pushtivardhanam I\nUrvarukamiva Bandhanan Mrityor Mukshiya Maamritat I I \nWhile praying and chanting the mantra’s to Lord Shiva\, it is considered the best to do the chant with a Rudraksha Mala. One can also offer Rudraksha Malas to Lord Shiva to seek his divine blessings. Rudraksha is a Sanskrit word consisting Of the name Rudra (“Shiva”) and aksa (“Teardrops”). The Rudraksha Mala is very close to Lord Shiva as it is said that the Rudraksha is formed from the tear of Lord Shiva. Also\, the lord himself adorns one. \nBENEFITS OF RUDRAKSHA MALA: \n\nIt generates positive aura around the wearer.\nIt helps in calming down the person.\nAny person irrespective of his age\, gender or horoscope can wear\nit.\nIt is scientifically proven for having medical values such as\ncontrolling blood pressure\, anxiety. depression etc.\nIt is believed that offering the Rudraksha to Lord Shiva can please\nthe deity.
