Focus on Elderly
The older members have been meeting at the centre on regular basis
ever since the centre opened in 1975. Their main purpose for
meeting was for socialising. The older members often organised
outings to different temples as well as other recreational places
around the UK. The men's group would meet 3 times a week in the
afternoon to play cards, watch videos and meet with their peer
group. This activity again could not be expanded due to the lack
of proper facilities for example the group wanted a luncheon club
in the old centre, but this was not possible due to the lack of
resources and adequate facilities. It was agreed that this
activity would be given top priority in the new centre. The older
persons group have also made links the Age concern centre in
Preston and a recent innovative idea has been to introduce indoor
bowling as a fun activity and also to promote fitness and mobility
Outings are still also organised once every 2 months to venues
selected by the group.
