The Gujarat Hindu Society seeks to promote healthy living in a variety of ways.
Firstly,
it was a founder member of the Lancashire Gujarat Health Users' Forum,
which hosts the annual Health
Mela. This has become a national example of best practice for health
professionals wishing to engage with minority ethnic communities.
The GHS Centre also provides a venue for a series of health seminars and for a health living programme run by experienced local volunteers.
The centre also provides facilities for a range of sports and other physical activities (such as dance and Yoga) that promote physical and mental well being. Sports include indoor bowls, badminton, tennis, pool, basketball, football and traditional Indian games such as Kor and Carrom.
There are also self defence courses – Karate for both
children and youngsters. Classes are held between 12.30 pm and 2.30 pm
on Saturdays. The Boys' Youth Club runs on Tuesdays and the Girls' Youth
Club runs on Wednesdays.
